Easter Colours

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I am loving the Spring colours at the moment. I love pastels and lots and lots of white anyway, but there’s something really uplifting about it at the moment. Possibly because it’s almost properly Spring, but every time I get excited that it’s here, we have a frost. Grr. There’s nothing more annoying than having to bring in lots of plants because of weather. Of course life would be a lot easier if I bothered to watch the weather report, but that sounds far too complicated for me.

The latest crochet project for me is not growing so fast.

Spring crochet blanket

It is my Easter blanket, and it is just one massive granny square. Unfortunately, it’s only baby-sized at the moment. Now the sides are taking longer and longer to complete, I’m getting bored with it. I don’t like picking it up and putting it down mid-way through one side. I make more progress with it if I have the opportunity to sit and watch a film, but the only time I ever get to watch a film the whole way through without interruptions is when I’m at the cinema. And it’s too dark in there to crochet. Sigh. I’ve still got half of Iron Man to watch, so maybe I’ll make some progress this week.

There’s nothing quite like crispy cakes for spring colour as well. And for making your teeth nearly stick together because you can’t help but scrape all the chocolate off the wooden spoon at the end, when it’s nearly dried out.

Rice Crispie cakes

Surprisingly we still have quite a lot of these left. I think I’ll take some down to my friendly neighbourhood gardening volunteers tomorrow.

And finally, there’s this. It was totally worth all the trouble, all the stress. Man, there are some stories to tell about putting this table together, but I’ve repressed most of them.

Easter dinner service

And hot damn. Look at that. It was even worth having to re-iron the tablecloth and runner.

But seriously. If I see another daffodil I will not be held responsible for my actions.

Gosford Park

There is nothing so pleasant as cleaning a dinner service. It is relaxing, and fun, if you’ve got someone to chat to. The china is beautiful, and the glass sparkles. But that’s not the best bit.

The best bit is when the cutlery is all lined up, like something out of Gosford Park. It is the most satisfying feeling.

Dinner service

It’s something you can’t buy, and I will never get tired of it.
